When people marry, most do a budget so that they either A) both work or B) do it so that one works and the other stays home. And save some $$ so that if the who does work can't work for a bit hopefully that never happens.
It's kind of irrirtating when people talk about how much money they DON'T have when they get in a pickle. Yes, I know some circumstances are beyond our control but having a little saved in the bank can't hurt. Once a financial advisor at a bank told me that it's always safe to have at least $5000 in the bank at all times. . that way if the unforeseeable actually happens, you'll be okay for at least a little while. Say the car breaks down something fierce and it needs an overhaul, you'd have the money to fix it.
Or when you and spouse want to have children and one spouse wants to stay home, do your budget accordingly right from the start. And don't complain to me when you do have children and you can't afford to stay home because you and your spouse decided to buy a house 2 yrs ago and you can't NOT work because then the mortgage won't get paid. Should have bought a house you could afford on ONE income, not two.
Do I make sense to you? This is just a pet peeve of mine. . . . Do your budget based on what you and your family want to do whether it's on one income or two.
